Immigration and End of Empire
During the first decade of my life, Independence for nearly all of the African Nations became reality and brought an end to British Colonialism on this huge continent. This and other world events were the background to my upbringing and remain clearly in my thoughts today.
Enoch Powell was an infamous political figure during the 1960s and 1970s and his famous 'Rivers of Blood' speech about immigration from 1968 was the subject of a series of works that I used for an Artist's Book project. The themes that run through his speech resonate even today and were present during the Brexit campaign of 2016-2020.
